road warriors

It's Super Bowl XLII week and, as you NFL football diehards are already well aware, the big game pits the dynastic New England Patriots against the upstart New York Giants. Truth be told, I'm not really a fan of either team and this rings especially true for the hated Pats, but I suppose that's fodder for another post. For today, anyway, I only want to talk about the Giants.

The elegant architecture of the Nordiska Museet in Stockholm, Sweden. (October 2007). Sometimes it's best to break the pattern at home - no longer how nice it may seem - by going on the road for awhile.

Based on their gritty play towards the latter part of this season, I have come to grudgingly respect the underdog New York Giants. They never seem to quit, and much of their best work has come in the hostile environs of another team's home stadium.

Interesting statistic: the Giants have a rather impressive 10-1 won-loss record on the road, versus a mediocre 3-5 record at home. This is pretty unusual. Are these guys road warriors or merely home disadvantaged? Perhaps it's a little bit of both.

Sometimes I feel like a can relate, which is why I'll be taking my show on the road for a few days. Who knows? Maybe any positive momentum I can generate as a visitor will put me in a better position to succeed in the big game at home, so to speak. Or, if not, at the very least I'm travelling again.

May the Mediterranean sun shine down on Nice, Monaco, and the Côte d'Azur.

See you next week.

hello aquarius

Grey days and long nights have plunged this entire operation into a general state of creative malaise. The editor has gone into hibernation; I'm simply disjointed. Well, hello, Aquarius - you couldn't have arrived at a better time. Need to get things flowing again.

numerology, astrology, alchemy, daguerreotypography

And that makes another lap around the sun.

With a new calendar now in place, the prognosticators are looking at the numbers, the stars, and everything else, for further insight on the fledgling promise of 2008. May everything be as it should, could, ... and then some.

With one last look at a few 2007 outtakes, felix's daily starfish and waffles wishes you a Happy New Year.

In August, the corporate headquarters of felix's daily starfish and waffles moved here, to Lund, Sweden. Well, not here, exactly, but ...

... here. The editor wakes up to this view every morning, though admittedly not all are as brilliant as this particular October sunrise.

It's been at least a decade since I've been inside the Mendel Conservatory in Saskatoon, Canada. Although still an oasis of colour in the midst of the bleak, prairie winter landscape, it - like so many other places in the world - seems smaller than I remember.

A snap of the Bergen Kunstmuseum's (Art Museum) crowning tower room. Although I would've liked to have traveled a bit more, I did manage to get to Bergen, Norway, in October.

My little niece Amy turned one in 2007. (Saskatoon, Canada).

2007 featured a summer of weddings. Here's a shot of the gorgeous girls from Tina's wedding party. (Edmonton, Canada).

Tina let me practice my developing photography skills at her henna party in July. (Edmonton, Canada). My first stock photographs were accepted by Alamy in October and my Red Bubble online store opened for business in November.

From left to right: Tanay, me, Jane. (Ottawa, Canada). Ok, so this one was taken in 2006. But if there was ever a year of reflecting on past people and places while taking on and looking forward to new challenges, 2007 was it. Will 2007's questions resolve themselves in 2008? We'll see. In the meantime, thank you for being here with us at felix's daily starfish and waffles for another year.
